Farrell Makes Rugby Debut

Declan Farrell was last week handed the opportunity to realise the dream of many young rugby players - to face the top side in English rugby, Leicester Tigers.
The Guinness Premiership champions made their annual pre-season visit to local rivals Nottingham’s Meadow Lane ground and the Loughborough College student made it into Director of Rugby Glenn Delaney’s squad for the clash.
At just 19 years old, Farrell made his debut in the front row for the Midlands outfit after a season with the National League Two North Loughborough Students side - three divisions below the RFU Championship team.
Delaney hopes time with his side will help develop the Irish youngster, saying: “We are hoping that Declan will remain with us for the season so he can develop as part of the set up here.
“It was a real baptism of fire for him to come into a front row against the likes of Martin Castrogiovanni and our first choice hooker - Tom Youngs.
“He will have some really tough competition here at Nottingham but I’m sure it will be positive in terms of his development.”
The youngster is currently studying towards a Foundation Degree in Sports Science at Loughborough College.
A suspected broken ankle for second choice hooker Jimmy Stevens in the 54-7 loss could see the former Irish Exiles U18s captain in with a chance of Championship rugby over the coming weeks.
