Keightley Up For Training Award
06/09/10David Keightley will next month find out whether he is the winner of a prestigious Regional Training Award at a ceremony in Leicester.
The 25-year-old Loughborough College student has made it to the regional stage of the National Training Awards, which will take place on October 14.
Mr Keightley currently works as Test Methods and Maintenance Engineer for BRUSH Electrical Machines in Loughborough, where he started as an apprentice in 2004.
He said: “I started at the College with my ONC Electrical Engineering, then HNC Electrical Engineering, the HND in Electrical Engineering and I am now going for the HND in Mechanical Engineering.
“I started my apprenticeship with Brush in 2004 with the College and finished that last year.”
He will face the judges next month but is looking forward to it, saying: “This ceremony is a bit like the Oscars.
“All nominees turn up with nobody aware of what they may or may not have won, but it is still a great honour to have got this far.
“It is pretty nerve wracking, but I have been practicing my best ‘sad but happy’ face just in case I don’t win.
“If we do not win anything, we have been and still are up against very tough opposition - these accolades are hard - the judges really put you through the mill.
“I think our catchy title grabbed them - High Voltage Apprenticeship makes the sparks fly in his career progression and BRUSH Electrical Machines.”
If successful, Mr Keightley could be in with a chance of winning a National Training Award at a ceremony in London in December.
