Apprenticeship summary

Prime Responsibilities:

  • To work under the leadership of the Conductor
  • To foster an ethos which positively promotes and supports Steps within the agreed aims and intentions of the Centre
  • To develop and maintain a good working relationship with the parents, children, carers and guardians
  • To ensure a safe, positive, stimulating and happy learning environment for parents and their children, to liaise with parents regarding the educational needs of their child in the setting
  • To support the Team Leader in implementing the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum
  • To attend inset/training days organised by Steps

Curriculum, Programmes and Environment:

  • To assist with the planning, monitoring, recording, reporting and evaluation of the children’s activities and achievements
  • To help with the display boards, providing attractive and eye catching displays for the parents, children and visitors
  • To ensure that all the equipment used by the children is in good condition, cleaned and maintained
  • To assist with arranging trips and planned activities for the enhanced development of the children
  • To help prepare risk assessments that are done for all activities where necessary

Health and Safety:

  • To make staff and parents aware of Steps’ Health and Safety Policy
  • To ensure the physical environment is maintained to high standards of safety, hygiene and presentation.
  • To alert the Manager to anything that may be a hazard to the health or safety of any person in the Centre

Personal Development:

  • To keep own personal development portfolio
  • To participate in ongoing programmes of staff development and training
  • To identify any particular areas of special interest or personal weakness for which the Manager might be able to provide additional training


  • To liaise with other professionals from under the direction of the Conductor and Manager
  • Any other duties as may be reasonably directed by the Conductor or the Manager

Working Week: Monday - Friday. Shifts TBC.
