This apprenticeship gives you the opportunity to work with children and young people while also gaining an understanding of their development and putting childcare theory into practice.

As an apprentice, you are paid as you learn. You will go through a structured training programme that teaches all aspects of caring for children and young people, working alongside experienced staff to learn the skills you need.

Course Content

During this Apprenticeship you will complete the Level 3 Diploma in Early Years Education and Care, which includes the four themes below:

  • Health & Wellbeing
  • Legislation, Framework and Profession Practice
  • Play, Development and Learning for School Readiness
  • Professional Development

Entry Requirements

Apprentices must hold GCSE grade C/4 in one of the following subjects: English, Maths or ICT. If necessary, you will be required to take Functional Skills alongside your apprenticeship to improve your Maths, English and ICT. Apprentices will have ideally completed a Level 2 Apprenticeship or VRQ in Care, although suitable experience will be considered. Before you can start an apprenticeship, you need to be in employment. The course start dates are flexible to fit around your employer.

Progression Opportunities

Upon successful completion of this Apprenticeship, there is good scope for progression. Apprentices may move up through levels of work, for example, from nursery practitioner to nursery supervisor/assistant manager, or on to Higher Education.
