Around 4.5 million people are engaged in the running of businesses in the public, private and not-for-profit sectors in the UK. This framework is designed to meet the skills needs of employers by attracting new talent into a career in business and administration and help to up skill the workforce to replace those who leave or retire. Higher apprentices will work in roles such as office managers, administration team leaders, personal assistants or business development executives.

Course Content

This qualification is designed to provide learners with the knowledge and understanding relevant to their chosen career paths and aspirations within a business and professional administration context. The learners will gain generic and specific management and technical skills appropriate to their field or aspirations. The qualification also gives opportunities for research, analysis and original thought which are skills valued by higher education institutions.

  • Level 4 NVQ Diploma in Business Administration
  • Level 4 Diploma in Business & Professional Administration
  • Need to be involved in a work based project

  • Understanding organisations - understand the relationship between an organisation and its environment linking external organisational factors, for example legal, economic and competition, to the internal configuration and operation of an organisation.
  • Effective communication in business
  • Business ethics
  • Personal and professional development
  • Resource management
Optional (bespoke for organisational needs and learner development)
  • Recruitment and selection of staff
  • Project management
  • Business law
  • Planning and managing customer service

  • The average duration of a Higher Apprenticeship is 2 years

Entry Requirements

Five GCSEs, including English and Maths at grade C or above, with an Initial Assessment of English and Maths BKSB at Level 1. Any exceptions to be agreed by the Curriculum Apprenticeship Manager at Loughborough College.

Progression Opportunities

  • ILM Level 4 or Level 5 Qualifications in Leadership & Management
  • City & Guilds Professional Recognition Awards
  • Foundation Degree or other higher education qualifications
  • Learners may also be able to gain membership of professional bodies such as the Institute of Administrative Management (IAM)

Mode of Attendance:
The Apprenticeship course is part time to fit around your work commitments, you may be required to attend college on a day release or your tutor will visit you in the work place.

Intermediate and Advanced Apprenticeships available.

Before you can start an Apprenticeship, you need to be in employment. The course start dates are flexible to fit around your employer.
