Developed in collaboration with our external partners, this HNC has been designed to equip you with the necessary skills and understanding required to build a successful career within the industry. This two-year, part-time course combines theoretical understanding with practical work experience and aims to prepare you for the complex technical challenges that exist within the field of engineering.
With the flexibility to construct a learning programme that is specific to your individual requirements, this HNC aims to enhance your skills and improve your abilities in order to develop you as a rounded practitioner. Studying a core of maths, science and engineering principles, this course allows you to study additional modules designed to broaden your understanding and diversify your applied knowledge.
Designed to meet the needs of the manufacturing, mechanical, electrical power and electronic sectors, we offer engineering students industry-standard workshops and modernised learning facilities in which to conduct practical tasks. You will be to expected manage your own workload and commit to a level of self-directed study; however, support will be continually available from our experienced team. You will also be invited to take part in study skills development which will enable you to gain valuable academic skills and techniques.
The HNC in Engineering is split into three pathways; HNC Engineering: Electrical and Electronic Engineering, HNC Engineering: Manufacturing Engineering or HNC Engineering: Mechanical Engineering. All HNC Engineering students will study the same core modules and then will study mandatory and optional units relating to their chosen pathway.
HNC Engineering core modules:
- Engineering Design
- Engineering Maths
- Engineering Science
- Managing a Professional Engineering Project
Electrical and Electronic Pathway: Mandatory and Specialist Units
Electrical and Electronic principles
Manufacturing Engineering Pathway: Mandatory and Specialist Units
Production Engineering for Manufacture
Quality and Process Improvement
Mechanical Engineering Pathway: Mandatory and Specialist Units
Fundamentals of Thermodynamics and Heat Engines
As a part time student you will have a personal tutor with whom your group will meet every week.
Your course leader is responsible for the organisation and delivery of the course. They can help you with any queries about the course content etc. You are required to fully attend the course and meet all deadlines for the submission of work. It's great to read about a college and what it has to offer but there's really no substitute for experiencing it at an Open Day.
At our Open Days, our expert staff are on hand to tell you about our courses and what careers they lead to.
They'll also guide you through our application process, explain the different kinds of support available, and talk to you about the huge variety of enrichment activities that you can be part of.
With opportunities to talk to our current students, as well as take part in tours of our campus and halls of residence, an Open Day really is the best way to get a feel for what it's like to be a Loughborough College student.
