This course is designed for anyone who wants to kick-start their career as a fitness instructor or personal trainer but who has no previous exercise qualifications. You must regularly participate in some form of exercise yourself and have a keen interest in health, exercise, and fitness.
In addition, you will need to be highly self-motivated as the course can be very demanding both academically and physically.
- NVQ Level 2 in Instructing Exercise and Fitness

- CYQ Group Indoor Cycling
- Nutrition and Weight Management
- Emergency First Aid
You'll have opportunities to gain further qualifications and will complete a mandatory work experience placement in the College's on-site Radmoor Fitness Centre, alongside learning a range of disciplines to prepare you for working in the exercise and fitness industry.
- Four GCSEs at grade C or above, including English or Maths.
On completion, you will be qualified to work in a gym and teach a variety of group exercise classes. You may choose to work in a health club, gym, leisure centre, or even on a cruise liner as an instructor, delivering classes and designing gym programmes.
The course can also act as a progression route on to the CYQ Personal Trainer Award, eventually allowing you to work as a personal trainer either on a freelance basis or for a club or franchise.
