Looking to gain a teaching qualification and develop your practical teaching skills? The Certificate in Education and Training (CET) will qualify you to level 4 and will prepare you for teaching in a wide range of contexts including Further Education colleges, Sixth Forms, Work Based Learning, and Adult and Community Education.

Course Content

The Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training (CET) is a part-time course suitable for you if you want a qualification that focuses on practical teaching or if you are currently teaching and want to have your experience and practice accredited. You will need to be teaching, or have a teaching placement to undertake this qualification as there is a requirement for a minimum of 30 hours of practice.

The course will run from October to the end of June with weekly sessions held in the evening to suit your working patterns. Class duration will be 3½ hours including additional tutorial sessions to support your professional development plan.

You will be assessed through writing assignments, observations and group activities. As part of the course you will need to complete a minimum of three teaching observations.

Entry Requirements

  • Subject specific qualification at Level 3
  • English and maths at Level 2
  • Teaching for 30 hours throughout the whole course duration
  • Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check
  • Have a subject specialist mentor
  • You will need to attend an interview session

Progression

The Certificate in Education and Training enables you to meet the minimum requirement for those employed as a teacher or trainer in Further Education colleges, Adult Education centres or Work- Based learning. Upon completion of the CET course you can progress onto the Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training.There is the opportunity to progress towards Qualified Teaching and Learning Status once you have completed the Level 5 qualification.
