Advanced Apprenticeship (Level 3) inMaintenace and Installation

This apprenticeship is designed to cover the skills and knowledge in maintenance and installation activities such as carrying out planned and emergency fault diagnosis and maintenance on mechanical equipment, restoring mechanical components to usable condition by repair, producing replacement components, assisting in the installation of mechanical equipment and carry out quality inspections.

Carrying out planned and emergency fault diagnosis and maintenance, test and repair electronic equipment and circuits/ communications equipment/ instrumentation and control equipment, service medical equipment and carry out quality inspection.

Carrying out planned and emergency fault diagnosis, maintenance and testing on electrical equipment and circuits, modifying or rewiring electrical circuits, assisting in the installation of electrical/ electronic equipment and carry out quality inspections.

Who is this Apprenticeship for?

New entrants who want to work in an Engineering Environment. However, other entrants may have experience from working in the sector in a manufacturing context, and are now seeking to become qualified by undertaking an apprenticeship programme. Also for candidates who have obtained a Level 2 in maintenance and installation apprenticeship.

All candidates must be keen and motivated to work in the engineering/manufacturing industry or be practically minded and want to work with their hands.

Assessment Methods

On-programme is the learning phase for apprentices to apply the academic theory to their own organisations and role, and to capture the skills, knowledge and behaviours developed on the programme and in the workplace. To achieve this apprenticeship, it is necessary to complete 20% off-the-job training during the on-programme phase of their apprenticeship, this can be tracked and monitored through our e-portfolio.

On program assessment includes: - continuous competence assessment in the workplace, alongside assignment work which is graded at pass, merit, distinction for the Technical Certificate.

Entry Requirements

5 GCSE’s at grade C or above in English, Maths and a Science related subject.

English & Maths

Prior to completing the Apprenticeship, Apprentice must achieve Level 1 Maths & English and be working towards and attempt Level 2 Maths & English (equivalent to GCSEs at grades A* to C). If Maths & English Functional Skills are required, these are typically taught in college in specialist functional skill classes.

Progression Opportunities

While significant numbers of Advanced Apprentices will seek internal progression to team leader or supervisory roles within their companies, some will want to progress to a Higher Apprenticeship in Engineering; others may decide to opt for a Foundation degree or HNC/HND.

Delivery Model

Programme is delivered through a combination College based training and assessment (this may involve day or block release), alongside work based training and assessments that enable the apprentice to complement the skills that are learnt, developed and used within the workplace with the knowledge gained at college. Average duration is 36 months.
