Rosemary Conley OBE has joined Loughborough College in praising an award-winning product created by school pupils – and which is set to benefit the College’s students.

The award-winning Easy Reader was developed by a year 10 team from Orchard Mead Academy in Leicester with the aim of supporting the one in ten people in the UK affected by dyslexia.

Loughborough College assistant principal Heather Clarke and learning services manager Emma Setchfield heard how the reading ruler with an adjustable cover allows only a small section of what is being read to be viewed at a time, the Easy Reader enables users to enhance their concentration and to improve their reading ability.

The product was developed as part of a project for Young Enterprise. Author, broadcaster and businesswomen Conley is President of Young Enterprise Leicestershire. The pupils’ fledgling company has gone on to be voted Company of the Year for the county and to receive a host of awards from the national organisation. East Midlands conductive education centre Steps, of which Conley is patron, has now endorsed the product.

“Heather and I were delighted to join Rosemary Conley to hear more about the Easy Reader from the Orchard Mead students,” said Emma Setchfield.

“The students have been involved in developing this impressive tool to support learners with dyslexia and it was no surprise to discover that they have received numerous accolades to mark their success – and that Steps has endorsed the product with all profits set to go to the charity organisation.

“Loughborough College is always pleased to support innovation and the local community and as a result of the fantastic pitch from the students, we are hoping to bring the Easy Reader into college as a further resource to support our learners.”
