BBC TV joins Loughborough College for Children in Need fundraiser

BBC TV arrived at Loughborough College today to join an exciting tech-inspired fundraiser for Children In Need.

Donations climbed as more than 1000 students got the chance to try a state of the art photo booth, mix their own electronic music, go head to head at E-sports, turn pit crew with a quick tyre change challenge and line up for some hovercraft racing.

Meanwhile, students donated to take their revenge on tutors who cringed as they were pelted with wet sponges and screamed as their leg hair was waxed away.

Loughborough College maths tutors Daniela Bright and Chris Radcliffe were eager to run an activity for the fundraiser as they have a personal connection to Children In Need. “Our 17 month old son Rocco has additional needs and attends a playgroup twice a week which is supported by the charity," said Daniela. "It’s an amazing resource for all the children and their parents and is run by incredible volunteers. Rocco has really thrived there.”

Loughborough College head of academic studies and STEM Lucy Howes said: “Our Loughborough College fundraiser has really inspired our learners and staff to get involved and boost funds for this amazing cause.

“We’ve had everything from green screening selfies to hovercraft racing and high speed car mechanics, guessing the number of water molecules in a jar to working out how many more water soaked sponges tutors’ faces can take!

“Teams from across the College, including from science, technology, engineering, maths, sport and performing arts, have come together to create an incredible event - and donation buckets are brimming!”
