Coveted show contract is dream come true for Loughborough College performer

A Loughborough College student has been offered a coveted contract she describes as ‘a dream come true’- and which could see her perform on stages around the world.

After a highly competitive audition process, Niamh Melton has been invited to join the show team at Alton Towers, one of Merlin Entertainment’s 127 attractions across 24 countries.

The 17 year old, who studies Performing Arts at Loughborough College, initially responded to an open call by Alton Towers last September for actors for their Scare Fest.

“I was nervous but decided to go for it because it was good experience and tried to think, whatever happens happens,” said Niamh.

“After I had done the morning they asked me to stay for the afternoon and over the day I had to do a mixture of character work, improvisation and dancing.

“A week later I heard I was being offered a role – but not in the Scare Fest, as a part-time performer up to Christmas in the resort’s CBeebies entertainments.

“I had a great time presenting shows and being the various characters – it’s amazing to see all the kids get so excited.

“Then they asked if over Christmas I’d be an elf in Santa’s grottos, again presenting , interacting with guests and so on.

“I’d had such a blast over those few months I decided to audition in January for the new season.

“It was another day of acting and dancing which I really enjoyed but at that point I thought that would be it, that they’d only really needed me during busy times.

“Then I received an email from Alton Towers offering me a full-time contract. They wanted me as a show performer with entertainments across the park and all four hotels.

“I am so excited. This really is like a dream come true. I get to do what I love every day.

“Plus this is an amazing company who offer entertainment all over the world so down the line there may be the chance for me to audition for jobs with them in places like the US or Japan.

“Loughborough College has given me some great skills and opportunities. I know I wouldn’t have been half as confident with my acting and feel I could be so independent if it hadn’t been for all the support they’ve given me - I really will miss the Performing Arts lecturers and the College and be sad when I leave in a couple of months.

“But I’m going on to something brilliant at Alton Towers and I can’t wait!”
