Creative industry experts offer Loughborough College students insider insight

Leading names from the creative industries arrived at Loughborough College recently to share their expertise and tips for success.

A panel of top professionals offered students an insight into music, performance and visual arts-based careers at a major event from the College-based Bridge to Work.

Digital Radio and Playlist Executive Graeme Woodcock of Horus Music talked about pitching music to radio stations and to streaming platforms including Spotify, Aple Music and Deezer.

Principal of Brightlights Theatre School and BTS Performing Arts Nick Sutcliffe was also on hand to give students the benefit of his two decades as a professional actor, director and choreographer in the West End, regional theatres, touring productions, TV and commercials.

They were joined by Professional artist Helen Rhodes and Kevin Ryan, Director of independent community arts and media organization Charnwood Arts.

“The students asked our panelists why they had got into the industry, how they had coped with rejection and making mistakes and what advice they would give their younger selves.

“They also got valuable tips on things like how to get their music published or the best journey into acting parts.
“The panelists even stayed behind to talk to lots of our students directly,” said Emma Ledsam, Creative Arts lead at Loughborough College.

“It was an incredibly useful opportunity for our students and helped them see waiting for things is unlikely to be successful and how networking and being proactive really makes a difference.

“We are very grateful to all the professionals who joined us and to Bridge to Work for organizing it.”

“This event was a great success. The experts answered so many interesting and important questions from students,” added Amanda Hearne, Lead Job Coach at Bridge to Work.

“This was of huge value as the students got to hear about the ups and downs of working in the industry and learned about the best way to achieve what they want from their own careers.”
