Feeling of achievement indescribable says Loughborough College GCSE student

A Loughborough College student spent nights in the library studying for his GCSEs before working day shifts and worked night shifts during his exams - and admits he was anxious about his results.

But Ahmad Fausi Sastrowirjono needn’t have been concerned. “When I opened that envelope … I can’t describe it. I had just got back from holiday and it was 5.00am and I immediately emailed my maths teacher George. I apologized for it being so early but I was so happy and wanted to share the news with him.”

Fauzi achieved an 8 in his Maths GCSE – equivalent to an A*/A – and a 4 in English. The 34 year old father of two young children said: “I have been working as a cleaner and there were times when I was doing nights around my exams. Then when I was on days, I would spend the night in the 24-hour library studying before going into work.

“I was worried about my maths and English but I’d also made the decision to take them and to do the higher tier in maths and I wasn’t going to back off from that challenge. All the teachers at the College encouraged us to achieve the best we could and that helped so much with my confidence.

“I’ve been recommending Loughborough College to anyone who will listen. I live in Kegworth but work in Nottingham and I’ve been saying, it’s far from Nottingham but it’s worth it.

“My wife is a PhD student at Nottingham University and now I have my results I need to decide what I would like to do next. I am keen to continue at the College and to study A-level maths or for a childcare qualification. I know they are very different but I would really like to open a nursery one day.

“The great thing is I have a choice. Achieving these results means so much to me.”
