Film industry experts give Loughborough College students chance to get hands on

There were lights, a camera and plenty of action when film industry experts arrived at Loughborough College recently.

More than 40 media students were given a glimpse into the on-set world of music videos, TV commercials and film before getting hands on with a range of professional equipment.

David Mlynski demonstrated assembly of a camera crane and pedestal system and dolly, which he created with Andrew Marsden for their leading company ReFlash, before inviting students to set up shots and film with the state of the art production equipment.

“David showed the students how to set up the equipment up before getting them involved, letting them have a go at shooting,” said Jonathan Lord, an instructor and trainer for Media at Loughborough College.

“The students are all studying TV and Film and loved the chance to get their hands on some industry standard kit and were fascinated to hear about how this particularly innovative compact, light and efficient equipment is being used by production companies for a range of filming.

“It was a fantastic opportunity for the students to gain a real insight into world of media and video production.”

“Everyone really got into it – we were certainly not short of volunteers. We even made a short film of the class doing the Mannequin Challenge,” added David.

“That first hand experience really helped the students see how having the equipment at their disposal would make their finished productions so much more professional.”
