Leicester City Football Club has confirmed Reuben Walker as first team sports massage therapist.

Walker proved himself to the Premiership champions as a volunteer for more than a year before being offered the full time role and has thanked the College for their part in his success.

Reuben studied Sports Massage Therapy with Loughborough College in the hope it would lead him into his dream career.

“I did the Loughborough College course alongside my job in a secondary school PE department and when I had qualified I continued to work on my massage techniques, building up a client base at a fitness studio before contacting Leicester City F.C to look at gaining experience at an elite level.

“They had a voluntary position available working with the U23 development team so alongside continuing to work full time at the school I did pre and post massages on match days, giving me a valuable insight into working with professional players. I also got to travel with the team to grounds all over the country.

“Now, in my second season with Leicester, they have offered me the position of full time sports massage therapist with the first team.

“I would like to thank Loughborough College and especially the tutor Clare Riddell for running a fantastic course.

“I was delighted that through all the voluntary hours and the work I put in with the Sports Science team at Leicester, who helped me develop my skills and techniques, that I was then rewarded with this fantastic opportunity by the club.

“I will travel with the team on match days and also on training days to do pre and post massages. I still have a lot to learn but I am looking forward to the experience.”

Clare Riddell, Sports Massage Lecturer at Loughborough College, added: “Reuben was a great student. He was a basketball player and we used to laugh in lessons because he was so tall he couldn’t fit onto the massage couch.

“After he qualified with us as a Sports Massage therapist he continued to build his skills with voluntary experience. There are thousands eager to pursue this career and Reuben is testament to the hard work and dedication it takes to try to create opportunities.

“I was thrilled when Reuben got in touch to let us know about his new job. It is a fantastic and well deserved achievement and everyone at Loughborough College wishes him the very best.”
