Loughborough College athlete smashes world record

Loughborough College athlete Amy Hunt has set a world under-18 200m record.

Not only did Amy smash Dina Asher-Smith’s British under-20 record but her time of 22.42 puts her at number three on the all-time senior rankings – and she only turned 17 in May.

“Honestly still in shock, thank you so much to everyone who made this possible,” said Amy, taking to twitter after her triumph at the Mannheim junior international in Germany on Sunday.

Kate Rooney, Elite Sport assessor at Loughborough College for Amy, who is studying on the Diploma in Sporting Excellence (DISE) course, said: “Amy is a lovely girl and a real talent.

“She has been selected to race the 100m at the European Under-20 Championships in Sweden in a couple of weeks. No one wants to hang a medal on her pre competition and add to the pressure but she told me it is her goal to win at the Europeans and she has already run 11.31 at that distance, so I am sure she will aim for the win.

“Amy is at the youngest end of her age group and is already achieving great things – not to mention making the British senior rankings top three for 200m. It would not be at all surprising to see her competing in the Olympics in Tokyo next year.”
