Loughborough College gold medallist and world record breaker storms to success once again

Loughborough College gold medallist and world record breaking athlete Sophie Hahn has once again stormed to success.

The 2016 Paralympic and 2017 World Para 100m and 200m champion clocked 12.83 to win the T37/38 100m at the Muller Grand Prix.

After being awarded an MBE for services to athletics earlier this year following her performance in Rio, 20 year old Loughborough College Sport student Sophie came in ahead of world T38 400m champion Kadeena Cox, world T37 100m and 400m champion Georgie Hermitage and fellow College student and world T38 long jump champion Olivia Breen at the Diamond League event in Birmingham.

“It was fantastic to have four world champions in the race; we spur each other on,” said Hahn. “I thought it would be close.

“Kadeena and Georgie had a battle but I had to focus on myself. This is the end of my season now so I’ll have a bit of a break and then back in the gym to focus on the Commonwealths.”

Loughborough College alumnus James Dasaolu took silver in the all-British Men’s 100m in 10.11 behind CJ Ujah with fellow alumni Harry Aikines-Aryeetey and Ojie Edoburun in fourth and fifth respectively.

Kyle Langford, another former College student, took sixth in the Men’s 800m in 1.45.69 with fellow alumnus Guy Learmonth in eighth.

World champion High Jump champion Mutaz Essa Barshim set a new meeting record and world lead with a winning jump of 2.40m with 2012 Olympic bronze medallist and alumnus Robbie Grabarz in seventh with 2.20 alongside Michael Mason of Canada, Italy’s Gianmarco Tamberi and Donald Thomas of the Bahamas.

British Champion Reece Prescod, who was a 100m finalist at the London 2017 World Championships, was absent from the line up but the former Loughborough College student tweeted he was watching while eating fish and chips.
