Loughborough College helps students find more than 50,000 hours of work experience in year

Loughborough College is celebrating an outstanding year which has seen them help its students into more than 50,000 hours of work experience.

Over the past 12 months the Job Shop employment team at the College has worked alongside a huge range of local, national and global organisations to support almost 1400 students gain valuable skills.

Senior Employment Manager David Drewry and senior employment brokers Stephen Bowen and Rachel Wade ensure that as part of their study programme, students from across Loughborough College are given the opportunity to shadow professionals and develop skills crucial to their future progression.

“Students on sport courses have worked alongside physiotherapists, in schools and in a range of gyms and leisure centres,” said Stephen Bowen.

“Engineering, electrical installation and motor vehicle students have had the opportunity to put their course into practice in engineering firms, electrical organisations and also garages while IT, Media and Games students have worked for technology-based companies, including creative media and marketing agencies, IT departments and online game companies.

“Hair and beauty salons have also seen the benefit of supporting students and travel and hospitality and catering students have had the opportunity to work in hotels, restaurants and travel agencies.

“Business students have meanwhile worked within a host of business settings, including in HR and marketing and those studying on creative courses such as music, creative arts and performing arts have worked in theatres, music studios and activity clubs.

“Schools, childcare settings and residential homes have been supporting childcare and health and social care students, public service students have worked at a range of organisations including charitable, life skills centres and schools and students on vocational pathway course, steps to success and progression courses had the opportunity to work in retail outlets and animal sanctuaries.

“Employers are seeing the benefit of supporting Loughborough College students with unpaid work placements and a number of students have gone on to secure part time and full time work with some even securing apprenticeships with the organisation where they have completed their work placement.

“This is benefitting organisations with their recruitment process and attracting the next generation of employees.
