Loughborough College invited to House of Lords

Loughborough College students, staff and governors joined leading names in education for a major reception at the House of Lords this week.

Baroness Burt of Solihull extended an invitation to the event celebrating Midlands further education colleges where guests heard from speakers including Education Select Committee chair and former Skills Minister Robert Halfon.

Loughborough College Chief Executive John Doherty said: “It was a privilege to be given the opportunity to attend the reception at the House of Lords alongside both our students studying on a range of courses including, A-level Government and Politics, Law and Psychology and the BTEC National Foundation Diploma in Business and two of our governors, Audrey Traynor and Stuart Lindemann.

“It was a wonderful setting for our colleges to be celebrated and we heard some inspirational speeches from Baroness Burt, Robert Halfon, Association of Colleges Chief Executive David Hughes and Paul Eeles, Chief Executive of the further education and skills support organisation emfec.

“In addition we gained an insight into government with a tour of Parliament and a glimpse from the gallery of live debates.”
