Loughborough College has presented Masterchef: The Professionals finalist Louisa Ellis with funds raised for her favourite charity.

Louisa received the cheque for Britten Street Hub from Hospitality and Catering students and staff following a sell out high profile chef take over evening at the College’s Radmoor Restaurant.

After reaching the top three in the successful BBC TV show in 2017 and working in some of the country’s top Michelin-starred restaurants, Louisa has launched her own supper club and events business but took some time out to share her expertise for the Loughborough College event, where students helped prepare and serve the young chef’s five course tasting menu.

Louisa said: “I want to do all I can, through my experience, to give students an idea of what’s required by the industry. If anything I do can help them in their future career then I’m happy. It was also very important to me to support Britten Street’s mental health and wellbeing services. Not everyone in our industry has such a great time. The long hours and environment in some kitchens can take their toll. I’ve seen it and I’ve experienced it and that’s why I am trying to raise awareness and funds for the charity.”

Loughborough College chef lecturer and hospitality and catering lead, Darren Creed, added. “The evening was a great success and we were delighted to present Louisa with a cheque for the fantastic amount of £1,100 which it raised for the charity.

“We are pleased to help raise awareness of mental health and contribute in any way we can to the vital work needed to reduce the stigma around it. It is wonderful to hear that these funds will help improve consultation facilities at the centre for young people in the region. Our learners are aiming to join a demanding industry and it is crucial we provide as many encouraging opportunities as possible for them to seek support.”
