Loughborough College ranked Gold for ‘highest quality’ degree teaching, learning and outcomes

Loughborough College has been ranked Gold for delivering consistently outstanding teaching and learning outcomes which are recognized as ‘of the highest quality found in the UK’ for its degree-level students.

The Government’s Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) assesses higher education providers across the country and judged the College to have achieved the highest possible level in a range of measures including student continuation and achievement, student satisfaction and progression to employment or further study after graduating, with its review recognising ‘students from all backgrounds achieve outstanding outcomes’.

The panel said its judgement that Loughborough College is a Gold provider particularly reflected evidence of ‘optimum levels of contact time, including outstanding personalised provision, that secure very high levels of engagement and commitment to learning from students’. It was also noted that ‘employability skills [are] embedded firmly in the curriculum, with frequent engagement by students in developments from the forefront of scholarship and industry practices’ and that students are involved in ‘course and module design most highly valued by employers’. Additionally it highlighted a College culture which ‘facilitates, recognises and rewards excellent teaching.’

Loughborough College CEO John Doherty said: ““I am absolutely delighted to see Loughborough College awarded TEF Gold and proud to see us amongst the country’s top providers, with our higher education teaching judged by a panel of experts as being of the highest quality found in the UK. This accolade reflects the experience we offer our students across our college and the hard work and commitment of the staff who provide it.”

Chris Cockerton, Head of Higher Education, Access to HE and Sixth Form at Loughborough College, added: “We are extremely proud to be recognized as ranked Gold under the Teaching Excellence Framework.

“Our students are at the heart of everything we do so we are thrilled to have been commended for reaching the highest levels of quality across all areas of their experience. This official recognition also acknowledges the achievements of a College team dedicated to providing the very best in learning, support and opportunities.

“Amongst the areas highlighted by the TEF panel as particularly noteworthy in our delivery were employability skills and courses valued by employers and this is reflected in the Destinations of Leavers from Higher Education survey, which showed 98% of our leavers in employment or further study after graduating from the College.”
