Loughborough College student Katie Clark will represent Great Britain in synchronized swimming at this summer’s Rio Olympics.

The British Olympic Association have announced Katie and Olivia Federici will compete in the duet event after they secured a quota place for Britain in Brazil in March.

Katie, who is studying for a degree in Sports Science with Loughborough College, has competed at senior international level since 2009 and the pair took part in the team event at the 2012 Olympics in London.

After retiring following the 2013 World Championships, Katie returned to the sport late last year.

The 22 year old competed in the Team, Free Team Combo and Duet at the European Aquatics Championships in London this year.

“Olivia and I were really happy with securing a place for the duet for the Olympics. We knew it was going to be tough to get the qualification place but we managed to pull it out of the bag. We worked really hard together.

“Rio was at the back of my mind but it was not the main reason for coming back. I never thought it would have been possible to compete at London 2012 but that was an amazing experience.

“I just love being in the water and being creative, and it’s the same for Olivia. That’s the main reason we decided to come back and we also work with some great coaches. It’s a great team atmosphere.”
