Michelin star chefs inspire Loughborough College students with personal messages

Loughborough College students are being inspired by video messages personally recorded for them by Michelin-starred chefs and leading figures in the hospitality industry.

Two Michelin-starred chef Mark Birchall is Chef Patron at Moor Hall Restaurant in Lancashire and urged the College’s hospitality and catering students to remain resilient and focused because “we need you.

“It’s an amazing industry. There’s so much to learn, so much to see … the opportunities are endless. Keep going, stay strong, focus …try to come out of college as strong as possible … get the best possible job you can. Our industry will not survive If we do not have young people coming through. We need you. Basically you’re the future. I know it sounds a little cliché to say and a bit cheesy but you are.”

Michelin-starred Alex Bond, part of the latest Great British Menu and head chef and owner of Alchemilla, Nottingham said he hoped Loughborough College hospitality students were “putting in the hours. Are you getting on with the techniques that you’ve been taught … getting some practice in? I hope you’re all learning and pushing on because you’re the next generation. I’ll see you in the future.”

With Loughborough College looking forward to the launch of its Koppert Cress Academy, Paul Da-Costa-Greaves, Culinary Countries Manager UK, Ireland, Middle East, Asia encouraged students to “keep smiling” and stressed the importance of maintaining their focus. “I’m really proud of you and we look forward to welcoming you - and seeing you back at Loughborough College. Stay strong and we’ll see you soon.”

“In these difficult times it’s really important to keep our learners connected with industry and leading chefs,” said Loughborough College hospitality lead and chef lecturer Darren Creed.

“To get these messages from such high-profile, Michelin-starred chefs as Mark and Alex as well as from Paul da Costa Greaves was fantastic and I would like to thank them all for taking the time to do that.

“As the college closed we were about to launch our Koppert Cress Academy kitchen which was a really exciting time for us and the students. Paul added to what Mark and Alex said, creating an inspiring cookery message to our students to keep their passion going in these different teaching times.”
