National Apprenticeship Week 2019: Rolls Royce select Loughborough College engineer for first ever project management apprenticeship

Loughborough College continues its showcase of success stories to mark National Apprenticeship Week 2019 with Euan Bell, who was selected from 3,000 applicants across the country to join Rolls Royce on its first ever Project Management apprenticeship.

The 18 year old, who studied on courses in A-level Maths, Physics and Biology as well Motor Vehicle with Loughborough College, underwent a rigorous selection process before being offered the coveted spot with the world-renowned company.

“The College has been so supportive in helping me achieve my grades and since I decided I wanted to take an apprenticeship rather than university route they’ve been so encouraging and really backed me up. I like cars and was keen on the idea of a more practical approach so the course at College seemed a great option – and when it came to an apprenticeship, Rolls Royce was my absolute first choice.

“I couldn’t believe it when I discovered there had been 3,000 applicants and that I had been shortlisted - but when I arrived for my final interview day with only seven other people from the UK and was told only three of us might be successful I realised just how competitive it was. The pressure really was on.

“There were two interviews, I had to give a presentation, I completed maths and literacy tests, took part in a group task … but I had done as much preparation as I could in advance. My dad has worked in project management for a long time and I talk to him a lot about his work and I’d thoroughly researched the industry, the company and the role. It was really challenging but in the end it was also really enjoyable.”

Only three days later, Euan heard he had been successful. “I felt relieved of course and then really proud of the achievement. To me nothing could be better than Rolls Royce – and for this brand new Project Management apprenticeship.”
