Loughborough is the only college to have two names chosen to compete in this year’s Ragdale Hall Student of Excellence Awards final.
After a rigorous selection process Jessi Edwards and Demi-Leigh Shearer lined up at the leading spa hotel to go head to head with nine other beauty students from colleges across the region.
“It is a fantastic achievement for both Jessi and Demi-Leigh to have reached the final - and not only were they shortlisted for the final but they have also both been offered part-time jobs at Ragdale Hall.
“Demi has been with us for three years and Jessi for two and reaching the competition finals and securing a position at the Hall is testament to how hard both have worked and how far they have progressed,” said Claire Springthorpe, Beauty and Sports Massage Programme Area Lead at Loughborough College.
“It has also been a joy to see how brilliantly they have supported each other throughout the competition process.
“The final consisted of a 50 minute full body massage and a 50 minute manicure to be undertaken under full observation from the judges.
“Jessi and Demi received outstanding feedback from the Hall who described both of them as ‘gems’ and although they did not win they each received a trophy and a certificate.”
“I have really enjoyed every year of my time with Loughborough College, and this competition is just one of so many opportunities we have been given,” said level 3 Beauty Therapy student Demi, 18. “It was so exciting to reach the final at Ragdale and it was my ambition to work there so I am thrilled to have been offered a position with them.”
Jessi, 20, added: “ It was a brilliant feeling to reach the final and I can’t wait to start working at Ragdale Hall. It is a top spa and the support I have had from Loughborough College and the quality of the course has definitely helped me achieve that.”
