Rio 2016: Nicola White helps make it four out of four for women’s hockey

Nicola White last night helped Great Britain maintain their perfect record and win through to the women’s hockey Olympic Games quarter finals in Brazil.

An early goal from Lily Owsley gave GB the lead and former Loughborough College student Nicola White added a second with five minutes to go against Japan.

The final 2-0 score made it four wins from four in Rio for the squad.

Danny Kerry, Great Britain Coach said: “Looking at the big picture, we've won four group games; we're definitely in the top two so if you'd offered us that we'd have taken it every day.

“…We feel we can match anyone, like we did against Argentina and Australia.”

Former Loughborough College Sport Science degree student Nicola won Olympic bronze at London 2012 and went on to further medal success at the World Cup, Champions Trophy, European Championships and Commonwealth Games.

After returning to her studies at Loughborough College following the 2012 Games, Nicola also become mentor for the College’s newly-launched Elite Athlete Performance Centre – the first residential facility of its kind in the country for emerging16-18 year old sport talent.

Nicola is amongst eight women’s team players in the 16-strong Rio squad who won bronze in London.

Great Britain’s next match takes place tomorrow against the USA at 22:00.
