Rio 2016: Wilson and McKibbin secure place in table tennis semi-finals on Paralympic Games day seven

ParalympicsGB have smashed through the gold medal total of both the Beijing and London Games with athletes from Loughborough College adding five titles to the tally so far and seven medals in total – with four days still to go.

On day seven, Loughborough College students Aaron McKibbin and Ross Wilson, together with Will Bayley, needed to beat Spain’s Jordi Morales to secure a place in the last four for ParalympicsGB's in the men’s 6-8 table tennis team event in Rio.

McKibbin and Ross Wilson lost their doubles rubber but Wilson then set up a must-win match for Bayley by beating Alvaro Valera in the singles.

New Paralympic champion Bayley went on to win in straight games and on Thursday will join forces with McKibbin and Wilson as they take on Ukraine in the semi-finals.

Also on Thursday, Swimmer Ellie Simmonds will be looking to land her third medal in Rio in the women’s 100m breaststroke SB6.
