Loughborough College is celebrating news that young rugby star Owen Jones has been offered a Championship contract – the third player from the College to be signed with London Broncos inside a week.
Owen joins fellow students Jacob Jones and Cameron Kendall on the Broncos' full-time U19 squad with the trio set to divide their time between the capital and Loughborough College, where they are in their second year of the Midlands Hurricanes programme.
“This is excellent news for Owen, who worked incredibly hard whilst on his initial trial,” said Head of the RFL Midlands programme, Greg Mannion.
“Together with Jacob and Cameron’s signings this week, this proves once again that Midlands Hurricanes are on the rise and changing perceptions across the country that rugby talent isn’t only to be found in the heartlands.
“The trio join a growing number of players from the programme at Loughborough College who have been snapped up for trials and given contracts with Super League and Championship clubs.
“Hopefully the trend of good news will continue.”
