Loughborough College has helped students into more than 60,000 hours of work experience in the past year alone.

The record breaking numbers saw over 1500 students gained valuable skills during the 2018/19 academic year as a result of placements organised by the College’s careers and employability team, who work with increasing numbers of local, national and global organisations.

“This year has seen the highest ever number of learners from Loughborough College completing a work placement, with students from all curriculum areas being given the opportunity to put what they have learnt on their course into practice and gain experience in real life working environments,” said careers and employability manager David Drewry.

“Local, national and multi national organisations from a variety of sectors including engineering, sport, creative and service industries, motor vehicle and many more have supported our learners. They offer students the chance of a placement in a sector they may want to work in the future and to develop valuable skills that will support them in securing employment or as they take their next steps in training and education.

“Over the past year learners have been successful in securing part time work, full time work and even apprenticeships from their placement, which shows the benefit of these opportunities to both organisations and the individual.

“Whether it is supporting with work placements or completing talks to our learners, we are always keen to liaise with more organisations to provide our students with the best possible range of opportunities.”
