This week may mark the launch of the first ever Loughborough College International Winter School but the welcome has been warm for the students who have travelled almost 5,000 miles to attend.
Only hours after touching down in the UK, 45 school pupils from China were being greeted by Vice Principal Yiannis Koursis, who exchanged gifts with the group’s leaders on behalf of Loughborough College and its international team at a breakfast reception.
Alongside their two week Winter School education programme, the students and teachers from Tai’an City, Shandong Province will be visiting the town centre, the National Space Centre in Leicester and Nottingham Castle as well as going on excursions to London, Stratford upon Avon, Oxford and Cambridge. There are also plans for film nights and even a karaoke evening.
Vice Principal Yiannis Koursis said: "Loughborough College has a long history of working with international partners and students and it was my great pleasure to welcome the students from China for this, our first ever International Winter School Programme.
“The students have come a long way but will, I know, feel very much at home with us as they further their education and experience everything Loughborough College has to offer. We will also be giving them the opportunity to enjoy the town, the countryside and some of Britain’s most famous locations.
“This inaugural Winter School is the latest development in an exciting programme to grow and enhance international education at Loughborough College."
Ula Wang, Senior International Manager at the college added: “The international team is very excited to welcome students from our partner schools in China. We hope they will have an enjoyable time here in Loughborough. We also hope this will strengthen our partnerships with China and generate new opportunities for Loughborough College.“
Students from more than 40 countries currently study at Loughborough College on A-Level, International Foundation, HND, Top-Up, and a range of English language programmes.
