A top music industry name is the latest to feature in the growing success of a Loughborough College-based initiative, boosting careers advice and support for young people across the area.

Kat Kennedy has worked with artists including London Grammar, Scissor Sisters, Boy George and Culture Club, The Futureheads and Badly Drawn Boy over ten years at Big Life and currently co-manages Irish band Walking On Cars.

Now General Manager at the music management and publishing company, Kat also assisted the late, and legendary, music manager Jazz Summers – whose artists included Wham! and The Verve – including helping him publish his autobiography.

Kat appeared from her London office on an innovative digital portal which offers the chance for students and teachers to speak from schools or colleges across the area with a range of employers, while in their own place of work.

The successful initiative was introduced by the award-winning Bridge to Work scheme and has featured Caterpillar, Marks and Spencer, Barratt Homes, Urban Fox, the National Space Centre and Lime Tree Day Nurseries amongst many others with Fox Medics, Derry Building Services and Burleigh Court just some of the names set to join the line up.

Emma Pattison, Lead Job Coach at Loughborough College, said : “We had lined up almost 50 school and college students and are incredibly grateful to Kat and Big Life for giving them a fantastic insight into this highly competitive business.

“She talked about her own background, offered tips on gaining work experience, building connections and breaking into the industry and shared the huge range of roles available.

“Students studying on Creative Arts courses at Loughborough College, including Music, said afterwards that Kat had given them lots of relevant advice, that she had really opened their eyes to the opportunities available to them and it had given them the courage to go out and look for jobs in the field.”
