Virtual Loughborough College Sport Awards go live in lockdown

Lockdown proved no barrier to Loughborough College Sport’s annual celebration of achievement when the ceremony went live online – and an audience of more than 700 people watched a host of awards presented virtually.

UK U20s number one pole vaulter Glen Quayle took away the TASS Athlete of the Year and Head of Football and Futsal Miguel Ribeiro was crowned Coach of the Year. Jess Allen’s faultless display at the Association of Colleges regionals, on the way to becoming the East Midlands badminton champion, was named performance of the year while Loughborough College Sport Men’s Rugby topped off a very successful season to be named team of the year.

The biggest prize of the evening, Sports Personality of the Year, went to England U19s and Aston Villa star Jodie Hutton. On being presented with the award Jodie said: “I am grateful to be able to tell people I went to this College. It’s been an eventful three years and the staff and tutors have been amazing. I feel privileged to be given this award. Thank you.”

Loughborough College Sport programme area lead, Danny Lee, said: “We really wanted to still shine a light on the incredible achievements of our learners, even though we couldn’t host our usual awards evening. The calibre of nominees and winners really showcases why Loughborough College is the leading FE sports college in the UK”
