Rugby star Megan Jones was thrilled to graduate from Loughborough College this week – completing her degree while representing England at the World Cup, Olympic and Commonwealth Games.

Megan , who was awarded a BSc (Hons) in Sports Science with Management at the Town Hall ceremony, says she could not have achieved so much academically as well as in her sport if not for the support she received from Loughborough College.

After debuting for England against New Zealand in 2015, Megan was selected as travelling reserve for England at the Rio 2016 Games and helped the English squad reach the 2017 Women’s Rugby World Cup final as well as to become bronze medallists at this year’s Commonwealth Games in Australia. The 21 year old has now signed another two year contract with England, taking her up to Tokyo.

“At Loughborough College I’ve had access to facilities which are second to none, as well as complete understanding when it’s come to my training and playing commitments. The team has been brilliant at helping me stay on top of everything and maintain the quality of my work.

“I was determined to get a decent degree and because many of the tutors have an elite athlete background themselves, they get what is required to balance your sport with your education – and they’re so friendly - that easy communication really minimises the stress.

“I got my first cap at 17 and I’ve been through periods of injury – it’s not an easy road but it was brilliant to reach the World Cup finals and to get bronze at the Commonwealths, that was the peak of our season. Now I’ve signed a new two-year contract and I obviously have hopes for Tokyo. These are exciting times.

“But it’s been just as important to me to graduate with a 2:1 – and Loughborough College has played a huge part in that. It’s been great to be at the ceremony alongside my mates. We’ve all worked so hard and now we have a piece of paper telling us how amazing we are. What could be better than that.”
