World number one becomes latest Loughborough College athlete selected for Commonwealth Games

Olivia Breen has become the latest athlete from Loughborough College to be selected for the 2018 Commonwealth Games.

Ranked number one in the world in the T38 category, Olivia has been chosen to compete for Wales in para-athletics in Gold Coast Australia.

The Loughborough College Sport student, who was born with cerebral palsy, will compete in the women’s T38 100m as well as the women’s T38 long jump.

At the World Para Athletics Championships earlier this year, Olivia achieved a personal best to win gold in the T38 long jump and was just pipped to third in the T38 100m.

The 20 year old was returning to the London Stadium five years after winning Paralympic bronze in the T35-38 4x100m relay for the 100m, long jump and, also, the sprint relay and also competed at last year’s Games in Rio.

Australia will see the highest number of para-sports events ever at a Commonwealth Games and 45% more athletes compared to the last Games in Glasgow in 2014.
