World Skills UK titles in sight for Loughborough College students

Loughborough College has taken a step closer to a major national title after Sport students secured two coveted spots in the regional finals of the World Skills UK Fitness Trainer Competition.

Entrants from across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland lined up for the chance to compete and the College’s Sarah Woodhouse and Chelsy Osborne both found themselves amongst the country’s top scorers, earning themselves two of only 30 places at the regional deciders.

Loughborough College hosted two full days of UK-wide regional competition during the summer with Sarah and Chelsy facing the high-pressure task of delivering a live individual session working with a client, under the watchful eye of a team of expert judges.

The pair now eagerly await the announcement of the eight winners who will go through to the November showdown, with the chance to be crowned World Skills UK Personal Trainer 2017.

Loughborough College entered the World Skills competition for the first time in 2015 and produced that year’s national Gym Instructor winner in Jack Burbank before taking the UK Fitness Trainer crown for the second year in a row in 2016 with Terri Musson scooping Personal Trainer gold and Jack Burbank securing bronze.

“This competition is a real showcase of talent for the new wave of trainers entering the profession so we were delighted that Sarah and Chelsy from our Personal Training course were selected from more than 100 competitors all over the country to represent us,” said Mark Thorpe, lecturer in Exercise and Fitness at Loughborough College.

“Both were incredibly professional and really enjoyed competing – although they were perhaps understandably nervous after the College placed first and third in the competition last year.

“We are very proud of Sarah and Chelsy’s achievement in reaching this level of the competition and look forward to discovering if they have built on their outstanding success so far to reach the grand final in November.”
