Job Description
Assistant Greenkeeper Longcliffe Golf Club is considered the finest golf club in Leicestershire and is the host of many county and Midland competitions. With its favoured location on the lower slopes of the historic and scenic Charnwood Forest, its offers 18 holes of beautiful but challenging golf. We are looking for an enthusiastic Assistant or Apprentice Green-keeper to join our existing Team of Green-keepers.
On a day to day basis you will contribute to the maintenance and development of the golf course, its practice facilities and the surrounding area in accordance with the golf club’s course policy document, health and safety policy and instructions form the Head Greenkeeper. This is a full-time contract based on an average of 40 hours per week on a rota which includes some weekends. Salary will initially be minimum wage and will increase as per performance and self-development.
The successful applicant should ideally have;
• An understanding and mindset towards health and safety.
• Good time management.
• An ability to work well in a team and also the ability to use your own initiative when needed.
• Knowledge of golf and/or interest in playing the game.
• A full driving licence. (The driving licence is not mandatory, however, the applicant must be able to get to the course. Due to the timings worked by Greens staff, public transport e.g. bus is not an option.)
• Happy to work outside in all weathers.
The successful applicant will be expected to work towards getting:
• NVQ 2 or equivalent in sports turf maintenance.
• Able to mow all playing surfaces to a high and presentable standard.
• Scarifying, verti-cutting, aerating turf, applying top dressing and repairing divots.
• Spraying and chainsaw licences.
• Preparing & maintaining machinery for use & storage.
• Ability to set up the golf course in accordance with the rules of golf i.e. changing holes and moving tee markers is desirable.
