Job Purpose
To provide a safe, stimulating, and inclusive environment for children attending the breakfast and after-school club. The Play Worker will support children's play, wellbeing, and development through engaging activities while ensuring high standards of care, safeguarding, and supervision.
Key Responsibilities
Childcare and Supervision
- Provide high-quality care and supervision for children aged [insert age range].
- Ensure the safety, welfare, and wellbeing of all children at all times.
- Support children in developing positive relationships, confidence, and independence.
- Promote inclusion and ensure all children feel welcomed and valued.
Play and Activities
- Plan, prepare, and deliver a variety of age-appropriate play opportunities and activities.
- Encourage children's participation in creative, physical, social, and educational activities.
- Support child-led play and enable children to make choices about their activities.
- Set up and clear away equipment and resources before and after sessions.
Safeguarding and Health & Safety
- Follow all safeguarding, child protection, health and safety, and behaviour management policies and procedures.
- Report any concerns regarding a child's welfare to the designated safeguarding lead.
- Ensure the play environment is safe, clean, and well-maintained.
- Administer basic first aid where qualified and required.
Communication and Teamwork
- Build positive relationships with children, parents/carers, school staff, and colleagues.
- Communicate effectively with parents/carers regarding children's attendance and wellbeing.
- Work collaboratively as part of the wraparound care team.
- Attend staff meetings and training as required.
Administration
- Maintain accurate attendance registers and relevant records.
- Support with snack preparation and ensure food hygiene procedures are followed.
- Assist with the collection and dismissal of children in line with club procedures.
Person Specification
Essential Criteria
- Experience working with children in a school, childcare, play, or youth setting.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work as part of a team.
- Understanding of safeguarding and child protection responsibilities.
- Enthusiastic, reliable, and caring approach.
- Ability to engage children in enjoyable and meaningful play experiences.
Desirable Criteria
- Relevant childcare qualification (e.g., Level 2 or Level 3 in Childcare, Playwork, or equivalent).
- Paediatric First Aid qualification.
- Food Hygiene Certificate.
- Experience of working in a breakfast club, after-school club, or wraparound care setting.
General
