Leicester Tigers Rugby Programme

The programme is run in collaboration with Leicester Tigers, a professional premiership rugby union club based in Leicester. The programme combines outstanding education with professional rugby coaching in world class facilities.

The programme is designed for aspiring professional rugby union players in years 12 and 13. It is a full-time talent pathway programme designed to equip promising young rugby players with the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed to maximise their performance.

The programme runs for two academic years. Players commit to 12 hours of rugby and physical development each week that can be combined with training at Leicester Tigers Academy. From September 2025 players will have access to regular high quality fixtures against other Premiership linked colleges in the National ACE League.

Rugby training and analysis sessions are delivered by professional coaches from Leicester Tigers Academy. Athletes will also receive individual strength & conditioning, medical, nutrition, psychology and lifestyle support from our expert staff.

Educational Offer

Learners study a level 3 programme (BTEC or A-Level)

A-Levels: You can choose three subjects, from a wide range of choices, to study alongside your rugby training.
BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma in Sport and Exercise Science
BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma in Sports Coaching and Development
BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Business
If you are interested in other courses, these can be discussed on an individual basis.

An additional Diploma in Sporting Excellence (DiSE) is offered to selected students.

The Diploma in Sporting Excellence programme, governed by Sport England, is delivered to performance athletes selected by their National Sporting Governing Body to enter their Performace Pathway in order to help them progress on their journey towards reaching their athletic potential.

Progression routes from the Leicester Tigers programme are directly into Professional Rugby at Leicester Tigers or other professional clubs, or national and international club playing opportunities overseas.

Many of our students will stay on to represent Loughborough in BUCS Super Rugby whilst studying for a degree at the College or University.

The Leicester Tigers programme has a limited number of places that are offered following our assessment days. If you wish to apply, please complete the expression of interest form. However, applications to the college are open for all courses and all players who wish to join Loughborough College Rugby Academy.

If required, the College has on-site accommodation at The Gables halls of residence, rated Outstanding by Ofsted, with Accommodation Services providing around the clock support via onsite wardens. The Gables are self-catering, though food packages are available.
