Advanced and Creative Hair Professionals are creative, passionate, and driven professionals who work without supervision, managing themselves and others when required. They provide a quality service, whilst working to the highest standards and continuously developing their personal and professional skills.

An Advanced and Creative Hair Professional works in the hair industry, which is one of the largest, most trusted and fashion forward professions. They take ownership of their work and client lists, accept responsibility, are proactive, flexible and adaptable, plan their work and time, they aim for excellence by taking exceptional pride in their work and industry.

The work environment can be varied in size, style and ambience, from a bespoke salon, the media industry, cruise ships, product houses and manufacturers to luxury high-end hair salons. They are highly skilled and experienced individual professionals who deliver hair fashion forward trends, which are innovative styles inspired by current images and their own creativity, individual flair, imagination and interpretation.

Who is this Apprenticeship for?

This Apprenticeship programme is designed for candidates who have successfully completed Level 2 Hair Professional standard who wish to become fully qualified hairdressers.

Course Content

  • Professionalism beliefs values and behaviours
  • Advanced consultation
  • Safe working practices
  • Creative practical skills to include:
    • Cutting
    • Colouring
    • Styling and finishing
    • Smoothing and straightening systems

Qualifications included in the Apprenticeship

  • Level 2 Functional Skills English and maths (if required)

Assessment Methods

  • Regular formative reviews between employer, apprentice and the college
  • Development of assignments demonstrating learning from their job role or work place
  • Competency-based interviews
  • Observation in workplace
  • Professional discussion relating to CPD activity
  • A 5 hour trade test to include various methods

Entry Requirements

Level 2 Hair Professional Diploma or equivalent
GCSE English and Maths at Grade D/3 or above

English & Maths

If an Apprentice has not already achieved Level 2 (GCSE C/4 or above) English & Maths they must study for and achieve Functional Skills Level 2 English & Maths.

This will be completed through a day release to attend Loughborough College.

Delivery Model

Work based training and assessments to complement the skills that are learnt, developed and used within the workplace.

Day release to complete Functional Skills if required.

Average duration is 24 months which includes an End Point Assessment

Payment Breakdown

Levy payers pay 100% of training costs via Levy

Non Levy employers with 50+ staff or for an Apprentice aged 19+ - pay 5% of training costs

Non Levy Employers with less than 50 staff and an Apprentice aged 18 or younger, fully funded
