Sheffield Hallam University validates this highly practical three-year Sport and Exercise Science Top-Up degree course. It allows students to learn the knowledge and practical skills integral to competitive sport, health, and fitness and are required to pursue a career in the industry.
Our flexible blended degree programmes offer the perfect combination of online/ distance learning and contact day attendance. They are ideal for those balancing their studies alongside professional or sporting commitments or those who wish to study more flexibly.
This programme enables a higher level of multidisciplinary study of sport and exercise science. You will gain an advanced understanding of core principles in exercise physiology and nutrition, strength and conditioning and performance analysis. You will also complete a research project (dissertation) in the final year.
In Year 1, you’ll develop your knowledge of key physical and social sciences principles and link this to applied sport and physical activity scenarios. You’ll build on your knowledge of human physiology and psychology and their application to sport and exercise. You will also develop your research, analysis, and academic skills.
Through Year 2, you’ll advance your knowledge of the core sport science disciplines and explore multidisciplinary studies applying your knowledge to sporting scenarios. You will also develop practical skills related to sport and exercise science data collection and interpretation.
In your final year, you’ll design and carry out an individual research project and study in-depth issues in sport and exercise science in a subject area of your choice. You will also complete more in-depth modules exploring the key areas of interdisciplinary approaches to sport and exercise science.
With many practical and hands-on learning experiences, your contact days will involve hands-on learning in our specialist practical facilities.
Our highly experienced industry experts and academics will guide you through your learning, including lectures, seminars, online activities, practical activities, laboratory skills, peer-group learning and independent study.
You
will undertake various assessments, including professional discussions,
practicals, portfolios, consultations, essays, and presentations.
GCSEs or equivalent in English Language and Maths at grade 4 or above.
Following completion of this course, students may apply to study at the
master’s (MSc/MA) level or look to gain employment within the sport science
industry or other graduate roles.
