Sports Student Matty Embraces Opportunities to Strengthen Skills
Thursday 5th November 2026

BTEC Level 3 Sports Coaching and Development student Matty had aspirations of a career in professional football, either as a player or performance analyst.
Having been inspired at an Open Day at Loughborough College, Matty felt encouraged to join the course, which he graduated from in June 2026. He shared: “I was at an Open Day and listened to one of the ambassadors give a talk. I thought ‘I’ll give it a go’ and I’m glad I did. I feel lucky that I’ve been able to come here.”
The Level 3 Sports Coaching and Development qualification supports students looking to enter the world of professional sport, with course content covering a variety of areas including health and wellbeing, anatomy and physiology, and sports psychology. For Matty, it was this breadth of knowledge and skill development that empowered him to join Loughborough College.
“It’s a whirlwind of different areas!” shared Matty. “I couldn’t ask for a better course. The variety of options and broad range of skills you develop to benefit your future – it’s laid out perfectly.”
Delivered as a vocational course, students are encouraged to gain further qualifications and take part in extra curricular activities to support their next steps, something that Matty feels has put him in the best position for his future. He said: “There is a great number of opportunities you are given on this course, and you have so many chances to take part in trips and team-building exercises.”
In a full-circle moment, Matty had the chance to speak to perspective students about the College. “I joined the Student Ambassador scheme, meaning I’ve supported on Open Days and events,” he said. “It’s led me to so many other things, strengthened my social abilities, and given me skills that will last a lifetime.”
Having completed his course earlier this year, Matty is going on to a teaching role in New Zealand before returning to the UK to study for a BSc (Hons) in Football Science at Liverpool John Moores University.
Looking ahead to his future, Matty credits his time at Loughborough College as the perfect springboard to his dream career. He shared: “I want to work in professional sport. The hope is to be a footballer, or run as a performance analyst for a club. That’s where I see myself going, and I think Loughborough College has been the perfect start on my journey.”
