Business Students Lead the Way in Sustainability with Eco-Inspired Event

Loughborough College’s Level 3 Business Foundation Diploma students showcased their creativity and commitment to the environment this week by hosting a vibrant Sustainability Event as part of their course assessment.

The student-led initiative transformed the College’s Arts Theatre into a hub of eco-friendly fun and learning, with a range of sustainable activities including themed bingo, quizzes, games, and crafts. The event aimed to engage the College community while raising awareness of important environmental issues, reflecting both the students’ coursework and passion for creating positive change.

First year student Toby, who organised a DIY planter activity said: “We got to apply our event planning and teamwork skills, whilst raising awareness about sustainability in a fun and creative way. It’s rewarding to see everyone getting involved and enjoying themselves while learning something important.”

The event was designed, promoted, and delivered entirely by the Level 3 Business Foundation Diploma students as part of their qualification, allowing them to apply real-world business concepts in a meaningful context. The activities showcased also aligned with Loughborough College’s broader sustainability goals, making it a collaborative success across departments.

Kirsty Harvey, Curriculum Manager for Business at Loughborough College praised the students for their hard work and professionalism, sharing: “All our students demonstrated fantastic initiative and teamwork. They embraced the challenge, stayed focused on their goals, and pulled off a fun and impactful event.”

Dale Richardson, the College’s Director of Estates and Sustainability also visited the event and spoke with the students about their projects. Reflecting on the students’ work, Dale added: “It’s great to see students actively contributing to our sustainability agenda. 

Events like this help reinforce the message that everyone can play a part in making a difference. The enthusiasm and creativity the students brought to this project were really inspiring.”

The Sustainability Event marks another milestone in Loughborough College’s commitment to embedding environmental consciousness into education and empowering students to lead change.

Last month, the College signed a Race to Zero pledge, marking the commitment to sustainability across the campus.
