A Cut Above! Barbering Student Takes Regional Crown and Heads to UK Finals

Level 2 Barbering student Corben Shaw has secured a victory in the Midlands heat of the AHT (Association of Hairdressers and Therapists) competition, earning his place in the national finals in Blackpool in May.
Competing against mostly Level 3 students from other colleges, Corben wowed the judging panel by coming first in the Men's Barbering Cut and Style category.
With this impressive win, Corben has earned his place in the AHT National Finals, to be held in Blackpool next month, where he will compete against the top barbering talents from across the UK.
Corben earnt his place in the Midlands regional heat after taking part in the College’s second annual student Hair Competition, where he took home the first prize in the barbering competition, and won the highest tally across the entire competition, winning additional prizes for his outstanding scores.
Alongside his studies, Corben works in a barbershop and has been practicing tirelessly for weeks in preparation for the competition.
Reflecting on his commitment and talent, Hairdressing and Barbering lecturer Kerie Mooney shared: “Corben is just a superstar, his passion for barbering is plain to see.
“He strives to be his best at all times but is eager for everyone else to join in his winnings – most of the group are coming to Blackpool to cheer him on! I am beyond proud of his achievements so far and I can’t wait to see what he can do in the future!”
Corben will be joined in the finals by his model and friend, Alfie as he prepares to showcase his skills on a national stage.
