Hairdressing, Barbering, and Beauty Therapy Students Enjoy Inspirational End of Year Activities
Thursday 11th December 2025

Before wrapping the year up to enjoy December’s festivities, the Hairdressing, Barbering, and Beauty Therapy department at Loughborough College have had a busy, ambitious, and inspiring half term of activities, masterclasses, and industry insights.
Our Level 3 Beauty students dove into advanced online training with Dermalogica’s Aspire platform, exploring everything from cutting-edge skincare and in-depth skin science to expert client care. Beauty students were rewarded with an exclusive Hopi Ear Candles masterclass, and also stepped into the world of luxury at the renowned Ragdale Hall Spa, gaining an authentic look at life in the beauty and holistic therapy industry.
They experienced professional treatments, discovered the power of holistic wellbeing, and connected with experienced therapists who shared real-world advice and genuine insight into spa life.
For Barbering Students, community outreach was at the heart of learning, as our Level 2 and 3 students showcased not only their skills but also their compassion during a visit to the local Falcon Centre, where they gave 20 free haircuts to service users experiencing homelessness.
Finally, our annual in-house Hairdressing and Barbering competition inspired some amazing creativity, with students competing for their place in the regional heats of the 2026 Association of Hairstylists and Therapists (AHT) Hairdressing Competition.
Reflecting on a busy but rewarding few months, Curriculum Manager Claire Springthorpe shared: “This half term has shown passion, professionalism, and incredible potential across the department, and we can’t wait to see what the next one brings! Our Level 3 Beauty Therapy students were enthusiastic, polite, and motivated during our visit to Ragdale Hall Spa, and our barbering students who visited the Falcon Centre made a real impact, reminding us that sometimes a simple haircut can make someone’s day.
“Finally we were blown away by the creativity, skill, and technicality shown at this year’s in-house Hair and Barbering competition. Fourteen of our students will now go on to the regional heats in Sandwell next year, and we’re feeling confident about reaching the national finals in Blackpool again!”
