Two alumni of Loughborough College Group’s degree provision recently returned to the Higher Education Centre at Loughborough College to share their success stories and advice with current students in a series of fascinating guest lectures.
Harbir Rana and Ben Slessor, who graduated from the College’s BSc (Hons) Sports Coaching degree in 2019 and 2023 respectively, returned to offer insights into their careers in professional sports performance.
Both alumni spoke to final year students on the BSc Sports Coaching and BSc Applied Sports Science pathways as part of a module on performance analysis.
After graduating in 2019, Harbir has gone on to a career as a first team opposition analyst for Coventry City FC. In his lecture, Harbir shared insights into the key skills and responsibilities that come with the role, including tactical breakdowns and theories, individual profiling, and creating digestible and informative analyses for coaching staff and managers.
Ben, who earnt his degree in 2023, also returned to speak to students about his role as Lead Coach and Defence Coach for Leicester Tigers U23 women’s first team. During his lecture, Ben shared advice on developing a career in sports and life after graduation, explaining important aspects of his role, including designing, organising, and enhancing the team’s defensive systems.
He also held an interactive question and answer session with students, giving invaluable guidance that will benefit their journeys into professional sports.
Curriculum Manager for Higher Education Sport at Loughborough College, James Eccleshare expressed his enthusiasm for the guest lectures, and said: “It was great to welcome back Harbir and Ben to Loughborough College.
