Hairdressing students at the Falcon Centre

Hairdressing students from Loughborough College spent last Friday giving back to the community by hosting a special ‘Ladies Day’ at housing and community support hub, the Falcon Centre in celebration of International Women’s Day (Sunday 8th March).

The visit saw students providing a range of hairdressing services for local women, helping them feel pampered, valued, and confident. Clients who attended the event enjoyed a relaxing experience where students washed, cut, blow-dried and curled their hair.

Level 2 Hairdressing students Eloise Chamberlain, Georgina Fox, Harriet Jones, and Iara Marques volunteered to take part in the day, working closely with each client to create styles that made them feel their best.

Moments like this highlighted just how meaningful the day was for everyone involved.

The students found the experience deeply moving, listening to the personal stories shared by the women they worked with. For many of the women attending, the experience meant far more than just a new hairstyle. One service user shared how special the treatment made her feel, saying she had “never been treated so nicely.”

Hairdressing and Barbering Lecturer at Loughborough College, Kerie Mooney was involved in organising the visit, and shared her pride in the students who took part. She shared: “I was incredibly proud of the students for using their skills to support others and give something back to the community.

It was wonderful to see the ladies leave feeling valued and confident. The students did an amazing job, and they represented the College brilliantly with the care and kindness they showed throughout the day.”

The Ladies Day initiative is part of a continued partnership the Hairdressing and Barbering department have with the Falcon Centre. Previously, Barbering students have worked with male service users experiencing homelessness

The ongoing outreach is part of the College Group’s wider commitment to community engagement, and encourages students and staff to participate in the Loughborough College Group’s wider Good for Me, Good for FE campaign, supporting community outreach and charity engagement.
