Loughborough College Welcomes Qatar Triathlon Federation for International Summer Training Camp
Thursday 3rd September 2026

Loughborough College has successfully hosted the Qatar Triathlon Federation for an elite summer training camp, further strengthening its reputation as a destination for high-performance sport and athlete development.
Running throughout August 2026, the camp saw five triathletes, one coach and the Head of Triathlon from the Qatar Triathlon Federation visit Loughborough for an intensive programme of training and performance development alongside an English language skills course.
Led by Loughborough College’s Elite Sport Manager, Jimmy Lund, the camp was supported by a range of college staff who provided coaching expertise, access to facilities and educational opportunities throughout the visit.
During their visit, the group took part in a range of activities designed to support their development, including a trip to Mallory Park for high-speed circuit sessions, open water swimming and transition practice; a visit to Bradgate Park for off-road endurance training and trail running; mountain biking in Sherwood Forest; high-performance training and dedicated swim analysis at Loughborough University’s 50m Olympic pool, alongside track sessions at its High Performance Athletics Centre (HIPAC) and strength and conditioning training in PowerBase. The group also enhanced their functional language skills through dedicated sessions with Loughborough College Group’s Head of English and Maths, Dimitrios Tsokanos.
The partnership represents a significant milestone for the college, which was contracted to host and deliver the camp on behalf of the Qatar Triathlon Federation.
Loughborough College Elite Sport Manager Jimmy Lund said of the camp "Welcoming the Qatar National Triathlon team to Loughborough College was a fantastic opportunity to demonstrate what makes our dual career environment so unique. Training across iconic local venues like Bradgate Park and Mallory Park alongside our elite campus facilities allowed the athletes to experience the full spectrum of top tier triathlon preparation. Crucially, it showed how academic support is fully integrated around sport at Loughborough College, opening doors for recruitment and bridging programmes going forwards."
Matt O’Dowd, Director of Sport at Loughborough College, added: “Hosting the Qatar Triathlon Federation has been a fantastic experience for everyone involved here at the College. To be selected and contracted to deliver a training camp for an international governing body is a significant achievement and reflects the expertise, facilities and support we are able to provide.
“Our staff have thoroughly enjoyed working alongside the athletes and coaching team, sharing knowledge and contributing to their development during their time in Loughborough. We are proud to have played a role in supporting their programme and look forward to building on this success in the future.”
The visit highlights Loughborough College’s reputation for delivering high-quality sport programmes and supporting athletes at every stage of their development.
