Loughborough College has officially opened its new Digital Skills Hub which is set to boost digital skills and adult learning in the region.

The Digital Skills Hub opened its doors in a ribbon cutting ceremony with the Mayor of Charnwood, Councillor David Northgate, Chair of the Loughborough Town Deal board Martin Traynor OBE, and Loughborough College Group’s CEO Corrie Harris and Executive Principal Heather Clarke.

The project was funded by Loughborough Town Deal, who provided a £2.6million investment as part of a shared aim to improve the digital skills of residents to increase their employability. It is one of 11 projects Loughborough Town Deal is backing after securing £16.9 million of Government funding. In total, the projects are worth over £40 million of investment for the town.

Corrie Harris, CEO at Loughborough College Group, said: “The opening of our Digital Skills Hub is such an exciting moment for everyone here at Loughborough College and for our wider community. This amazing new space is all about giving people the digital skills and confidence they need to take on the future – whether that’s in education, work, or everyday life.

“We are so grateful to Loughborough Town Deal for helping us make this project happen. Their support means we can offer an inspiring, hands-on environment where students and local people alike can explore new technologies, learn new skills, and open doors to fresh opportunities.

“At its heart, the Hub is about people – about connecting, creating, and growing together. It’s a place where we can all build a stronger, more digitally skilled community for the future.”

The new facility contains six classrooms which are equipped with state-of-the-art IT equipment, as well as a separate breakout room.

Martin Traynor OBE, Loughborough Town Deal Chair, said: “The Town Deal is proud to have supported the creation of the Digital Skills Hub, and it’s fantastic to see this world-class facility open at Loughborough College.

“The Hub will help residents thrive in an increasingly digital world by teaching vital skills for the future, while boosting employment opportunities and strengthening links with local businesses.”

The Digital Skills Hub will support the delivery of T Levels, apprenticeships, industry placements and higher technical qualifications to skill-up local people as Loughborough moves into a more digitally-focussed future.
