Sport and Elite Sport celebrate their awards

Staff from across both our Further Education (FE) and Elite Sports Departments were celebrating prestigious national achievements earlier this week as they were presented with three illustrious national awards, recognising their exceptional contributions to education, sport, and equality and diversity.

In a special event held on campus, AoC Sports Development Manager, Rob Elkin presented the department with the two AoC Sport Awards for the Team of the Year and Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) categories that were announced earlier this month. Deputy Head of FE Sport, James Maudsley also accepted the Silver Award in the National Teaching Awards for "FE Team of the Year on behalf of the team, which was announced on National Thank a Teacher Day earlier this week.

Rob praised the department for their unwavering commitment to EDI, highlighting how the team has supported more than 600 Sports Academy students through EDI training and embedded special LGBT+ History Month and Black History Month fixtures throughout the year.

These accolades highlight the department's commitment to delivering outstanding sports education, supporting student success, and fostering an inclusive and inspiring learning environment. The team of teachers, lecturers, coaches, and support staff have played a crucial role in the athletic and academic success of its learners, this year supporting over 2,800 students.

Speaking at the presentation, Principal and CEO Corrie Harris praised the team’s dedication and impact, sharing: “Our incredible Sports team have demonstrated unparalleled dedication, innovation, and unwavering commitment to their students. We are so proud of the amazing work you do.”

Curriculum Manager for Sport and Esport, Danny Lee also reflected on the year of success, adding:
“We are incredibly proud of our Sports Department and their tireless work to not only develop sporting talent but also to empower every student to reach their potential. This is an incredibly proud moment for us all and these awards are a testament to the hard work of our staff and the enthusiasm of our students.”
